The Valentino Master of Couture exhibition was at Somerset House until recently (3rd of March). I wish I had blogged about it earlier as it's now finished but it really was worth seeing.
there were 3 parts to the show starting with hand drawn designs, letters, personal photos and my favorite a special Christmas card to Valentino from princes Charles, William and Harry. all 3 three royals posed on the front in the funniest outdoor nature image. This bit was more than a little bit strange.
The second part and main part was a long corridor showing over 100 different dresses and outfits. All of them amazing. I highlighted some of my favorite ones in the little booklet, below, that we were given with information on each outfit. There were so many stunning dresses. Along with the dresses there were various chairs with reserved signs on with names of multiple celebs, royals and designer A-listers. It felt like I was on the catwalk strutting my stuff in front of all these people, although it was more of a shuffle and squeeze past the groups of older ladies that lined wither side of the walk way.
Finally the last part was a short film of some of his work and how to videos and examples of some of the techniques used on the dresses you had just seen. And if you look below standing alone a beautiful wedding dress. The amount of hours that would have gone into this dress were immense a long train trailed behind with hundreds of hand stitched beads and delicate pieces of lace. It was really stunning.
I wish I had been able to take my own photos but there was a strict no photos policy. so these will have to do. Also wish I'd blogged about it sooner so you all could have gone. Valentino's couture work is beautiful so if you're interested in couture I would definitely do some research on him. safe to say I now pay more attention to his work.
